Rod London UKCP Gestalt psychotherapist counsellor supervisor

Rod London MSc, B.Ed., Dip. Supervision

UKCP Registered Gestalt Psychotherapist

MBACP (Accred) Counsellor

Location
My practice is based in-person in central Kings Heath (B14) and online via Zoom.
I also offer Outdoor Therapy – please see further details below.

Profile
I am a UKCP Registered Gestalt Psychotherapist and BACP Accredited Counsellor with over
20 years’ experience of working therapeutically with adults in various settings. These have
included schools, the NHS, Higher Education and voluntary sector. This broad range means I
have the breadth and depth of experience to help with many life issues.
The approach I take is humanistic with Gestalt as the therapeutic core of my practice. I work
with the whole person, including the context of your life, exploring the background and
repeating patterns as well as whatever is causing difficulty now. I offer a holistic approach –
believing that what may seem like isolated symptoms often reflect broader difficulties in our
lives. Therapy sessions will usually include talking but sometimes also creativity with
artwork, objects and movement, and occasionally can take place outdoors.
I offer both short and longer-term counselling and psychotherapy to individual adults. I am
experienced in working with a range of issues that may cause anxiety and depression, stress
and panic attacks, trauma and relationship difficulties. I have an interest in working with
clients who have experienced losses of various kinds. With a background in education, both
as a teacher and therapist, I also have experience around issues arising from childhood and
working with children.

Outdoor Therapy
Outdoor therapy is a well-established practice and can work in several ways – simply
walking and talking; observing and utilising the natural environment for support; focusing
attention on decision-making and what supports or interrupts this process; meditative
practice. Sometimes the whole session can consist of walking and at other times it may be a
mixture of walking, standing, sitting etc.
Outdoor therapy suits some people more than others but can be a useful alternative to
traditional indoor or online sessions – however, it still follows the same parameters around
confidentiality and time boundaries. Outdoor appointments are normally held in Highbury
Park, between Kings Heath and Moseley.
Please contact me to discuss this way of working in more detail.

Supervision
Supervision is available both individually and in groups for qualified and trainee
counsellors/psychotherapists as well as others in the helping professions.

I also provide a range of bespoke training and consultancy to groups and teams. I teach
various modules on the training programme offered by CSTD (Bath)
https://www.cstdbath.co.uk/ I have a particular interest in developing reflective practice
within schools and other non-therapeutic organisations.

Profile

I’m a widely-experienced psychotherapist (registered with UKCP), accredited counsellor (registered with BACP) and supervisor with over 15 years’ experience. I’ve worked privately, for the NHS, with staff in a University setting and as a therapist for serving officers in West Midlands Police.

My therapy practice reflects my lifelong interest in health and healing and is an integration of my personal experience, along with aspects of philosophy, psychology and clinical theory. I’m constantly developing my interest in therapy and write around clinical themes for professional journals. I bring my experience from working in education and music as well as influences from Buddhism and am generally experienced as a patient person with a sense of humour and a balanced viewpoint. I offer long and short-term therapy and personal development work to individuals.

My core modality is Gestalt, a creative, holistic approach which supports working at depth with the therapeutic relationship and embodied process and includes uncovering the influence of past and present situations on current difficulties. I’m sensitive to cultural differences and individual preferences and aim to help clients in developing enough support and awareness to grow into the choices and changes which, outside of therapy, have proved elusive.

I’ve particular interests in abuse, shame, low self-esteem, anger-management and depression but have experience in all areas.
I supervise from a pan-Humanistic perspective and have long experience with individual and group supervision for both students and qualified practitioners. I have provided Team-Building consultancy to organisations and CPD workshops for practitioners and welcome contact with regard to this.

Matthew Lee BSc (Hons), MNCS (Accred), Cert. Counselling

UKCP Registered Gestalt Psychotherapist

Location

My practice is based at Digbeth Court,162 High St, Birmingham B12 in the city centre, which is served by good public transport links including a number of bus routes. New Street and Moor Street stations are both within 12-15 mins walking distance and there are also several car parks nearby.

Profile

I provide a warm, non-judgemental and supportive presence and work primarily with a gestalt therapeutic style, focusing on the ‘here and now’ and present moment of what is happening for you in the session.  By raising your awareness of this ongoing process I can help you to understand more fully what you’re bringing to therapy and who you are as a person. Our relationship is at the heart of the work together, i.e. how we relate to each other. So by exploring your experience – your thinking, feelings and emotions, I pay attention to my own experience when I am with you too and use it to inform what may be going on between us.  By relating in this manner, patterns of your behaviour and how you are in the world become clearer. These can then be addressed and explored more deeply, and through this process possibilities to bring about change for you can then become clearer.

I've worked in the higher and further education sectors for over 18 years supporting young adults and as a volunteer counsellor since 2011. As a registered member of the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) and Accredited Registrant with the National Counselling & Psychotherapy Society (NCPS), I abide by their respective ethical codes of practice.  Being registered is an assurance to you that I meet a minimum standard for safe and ethical practice. I am able to offer the reassurance of having an up to date enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check in place, which helps prevent unsuitable professionals from working with vulnerable people. I also have Professional Indemnity Insurance.
