This experiential one-year weekend modular training serves as a solid foundation for those wishing to study this lively and enthralling therapy. The training is designed to appeal to those beginning working towards BACP Accreditation or UKCP Registration whilst also satisfying those who wish to take individual workshops as Continued Professional Development.

Non-pathologising, radical and situational in emphasis, Gestalt Therapy embodies a compassionate and holistic stance that views a person within their context, hence, Gestalt is a truly relational therapy.

The part time course commences 4th-6th October 2019 and is designed to appeal to anyone with an interest in Gestalt practice, including but not exclusively those with:

  • An existing qualification in integrative counselling/psychotherapy

  • Experience in the field of psychological therapy

  • Interest in the field of organisational consultancy and/or community development

  • Those working in fields such as mental health or social work

  • A need for CPD around specific themes or desire for personal development

What is the Foundation Course about?

Specific areas that will be covered will include:

  • History and development of Gestalt Therapy

  • Theoretical assumptions

  • Application of theory to practice

  • Conceptualisation of psychological health and disturbance

  • Nature of the therapeutic relationship

The course will both clarify the distinctive aspects of Gestalt practice while maintaining a clear basis for how Gestalt can integrate with other modalities practiced by participants.

The Foundation Course, which can be taken as separate modules or as a year-long training, will include the following content:

  • Contact and Awareness, Introjection and an introduction to moderations to contact

  • Retroflection and Confluence, Projection and Co-transference

  • Field Theory and Phenomenology

  • Dialogue and Body Process

  • Self / Selfing, Experimenting in Gestalt and Integration into practice

  • Endings, Satisfaction, New Beginnings, Group Process

What will the Foundation Year and workshops involve?

The philosophy of the course will be underpinned by the belief that we learn best in a fully embodied, holistic way. Bodywork, demonstration pieces, personal and group process, use of creative media/dream-work will run alongside traditional teaching methods. We believe that it is important to balance structured inputs with sufficient flexibility to allow for emerging needs from the group. Active participation will be encouraged whilst respecting each individual’s flow between contact and withdrawal.

The Foundation Course consists of 11 weekend modules from 4 - 6th October 2019 to 10 -12th July 2020 – with the initial, closing and one other workshop including the preceding Friday.

The course will be led by the core team of Dave, Chris and Rod, with additional input from guest trainers to ensure balance and diversity during the year.

Admission to the Foundation Course will be by interview.
